Erik Nelson (R, Georgia), with the support of Newt Gingrich, is writing a universal healthcare bill that will shake up the healthcare industry and put America back on top as the most competitive and innovative nation on Earth.
It all started with a canoe trip down a wild and scenic river. Erik Nelson (R, Georgia) said, “Newt and I were canoeing down the river. Off in the distance we heard banjo music. Then we had an epiphany. In the end we realized that hard-working Americans were being bled dry by outrageous medical bills and ridiculous health insurance premiums.”

A Healthy Nose
Nelson went on to describe how the current healthcare system is broken. “Doctors are pressured by risk of litigation, treatment options limited by insurers, and advertising that creates an uninformed demand for inappropriate, risky and expensive drugs. Insurers are cherry-picking clients. They have completely abandoned the original concept of risk reduction for all insureds. That idea has been replaced by profit maximization as the core operating principal. Preventative care is largely ignored by healthcare providers and almost never covered by insurance.”
Unlike every other previous healthcare bill, indeed unlike any bill Newt has every sponsored, this one is simple. It might even win the award for the simplest bill of substance ever.
The bill has several key points.
Administration will consist of the following

Health Wagon
The bill is expected to reach the House by September. I asked if they were worried about the Obama healthcare bill. Nelson said that would not be a problem, because that bill will likely fail. “Ours will be fully backed by the GOP. We also expect the Dems to jump on it because it is so sensible and they have been pushing for universal care for so long. It’s a perfect storm.”
