Rocket Languages is a New Zealand company that has developed a successful way to teach languages quickly and effectively.  Their interactive, multi-media lessons cover grammar, vocabulary and practical conversation in seven languages.

The Rocket Languages web site is informative and professionally done.  The company has a fairly large staff for an internet business and they are very accessible. 

Mauricio Evlampieff founded Rocked Languages in 2004.  He started with Rocket Spanish, which he created.  A native of Chile, Mauricio loves the culture and language.  He also has a strong passion to teach others, which is what motivated him to create Rocket Spanish.

In addition to Spanish, Mauricio has brought other language experts into his business.  His staff includes Lin Ping (Mandarin Chinese), Marie-Claire Riviere (French), Paul Weber (German), Maria DiLorenzi (Italian), and Sayaka Matsuura (Japanese).  A unique addition is Jake LaBerge (Sign Language).  Few other language instruction businesses offer sign language, and a video-based course like Rocket Languages is ideal for this offering.

The Rocket Spanish introduction page includes a relatively lengthy sample delivered by Mauricio.  The sound quality is excellent and I found it very easy to clearly hear each word.  My own Spanish is very rusty to non-existent, but Mauricio’s diction and pronunciation are outstanding.  Even though I comprehended very little of what he said, I heard it all with no trouble, even as I continued scrolling down the web page.

Years ago I purchased some Spanish courses from Transparent Language, which focuses on reading as a way to teach.  I found the concept appealing, but it was ultimately not effective for me.  The natural, conversational approach used by Rocket Spanish sounds much more likely to succeed. 

I really like the idea of using multi-media to teach on several levels.  Children learn by hearing and repetition, usually a core principle of any language instruction.  Combining images, games and conversation opens up new learning channels.  This multi-prong approach increases the chance of absorbing and retaining a word or concept by reinforcing it in several ways.

As soon as I have some free time, I fully intend to purchase Rocket Spanish for my own use.  I look forward to taking that step toward finally mastering Spanish.
